Southampton Concert Wind Band invite you to:
Song And Dance
Chandlers Ford Methodist Church - Saturday 17th March 2018 at 7.30pm
With more dance styles than a 'Strictly Come Dancing' series, you will be musically whisked around Europe and Latin America in a waltz, paso doble, mambo and bossanova. Closer to home there is some folk dancing and more than a nod to Ireland for St Patrick's day. Sing, Sing, Sing by Louis Prima takes us back to the big band and swing eras, most famously recorded by Benny Goodman. There is also the sparkling and instantly recognisable Soul Bossanova from Quincy Jones which, though reportedly written in twenty minutes, has been endlessly played in the last fifty years in many movie sound tracks.
Changing the pace, you will also hear Linden Lea which was Vaughan Williams' first publication at the age of 29 and is a song using the 'Common English' of William Barnes' poem originally written in Dorset dialect. The paso doble is represented by Amparito Roca, composed in 1925, written by Jaime Teixidor and named after his twelve year old piano student.
Tickets are priced at £10 adults / £8 concessions with free entry for under 16s and can be purchased on the door, or in advance by emailing email@example.com.
If you would like to book the band for any kind of function (private or public) please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
We take every care to ensure that these dates and times are accurate but would recommend contacting the band or the venue if you plan to travel any distance to a concert - dates and times may sometimes get changed at the last minute and we don't want to cause any disappointment!
